Have you kept your New Year Resolution so far? If not lets help with a resolution to feel more energized this year. When you feel more energized you may then be able to fulfill the resolution that you made at the beginning of the year.
First of all start to go to bed a half hour earlier. This will give you better quality of sleep so you will wake up energized. For every hour you sleep before midnight is the quality of two hours of sleep! When our circadian sleep schedule is disrupted it can wreck havoc on our bodies. A disruption in sleep will change our energy as well as put us at higher risk for obesity and diabetes(which will also alter our energy).
Next look at the food and drink that you are taking into your body. Limiting alcohol and eating real foods will increase your energy as well. Limit the amount of processed foods that you are eating, even if they say they are organic, GMO free etc. Processed food, no matter how it is labeled, will never be as healthy for you as buying fruits and vegetables and other non processed foods. Also try adding nettle tea into your everyday routine. This tea has iron, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin K, phosphorus, calcium, and magnesium all of which we don’t normally get in our every day diets. It does have a funny taste to it but trust me you will get used to it!
Do you remember that commercial where the super buff guy says “I lift things up and put them down”? Well they were onto something there. You need to be doing some sort of lifting whether that is weights, kettle bells or bodyweight training. When you exercise you increase your muscle mass, which in turn will increase your metabolic rate which will in turn increase your energy.
Lastly make sure you are breathing! And work on breathing through your nose and not your mouth. Did you know that there are cilia in your nose that remove 20 billion particles from the air you breath in?!? If you breathe through your mouth then many of those particles are getting into the body. So how do you breathe better? Place one hand on your stomach the other an your chest and as you breathe in make sure the hand on your stomach is moving first. Deep belly breathing! I know it is hard to train your body to breathe through your nose if you’re a mouth breather but it can be done!
If you incorporate just ONE of these tips you will start to feel more energized and will be able to conquer your goals and resolutions throughout this new year!
